Paul Releases first Solo Album, April 20, 1970

April 20, 1970 – 41 years ago, Paul McCartney released his first solo album, McCartney. It included the masterpiece Maybe I’m Amazed and sold millions. It also signaled the end of The Beatles as a group and ushered in the beginning of 4 amazing solo careers. This album, and McCartney II, (Paul plays all the instruments on both albums), will be released in late June as a multidisc package with lots of bonus tracks from Concord Music. Watch for special pre sales.

  1. I remember when that album was released. I bought it . When I was told he played all the instruments I was amazed. He is so talented and still is. Sometimes I wish the four of them were still together because they made such good music. But unfortunely two of them passed. Their music will live forever. Paul still got it. Still touring almost 69. I can’t believe he is that age already. I remember when he was 21 playing on Ed Sullivan. Beatles forever!!!

  2. That album was released when I was a Senior at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ majoring in music, basically from the influence of The Beatles. I went on to a successful career in teaching music which lasted for 39 years until I retired in 2009.I was thrilled to hear it the first time, and played it constantly, until my girlfriends sister borrowed it and never returned it. I can’t wait for the new package to be released!

  3. Its actually bitter sweet because Paul jumped the gun on the other Beatles. They had all agreed to wait a few months before releasing any material or annoucing the break up. Paul did not abide by the agreement, even though the record company stalled the McCartney album, it was still too soon to keep to the agreement made by the boys. It was a masterpiece but like I said comes with a back story…… Jim Campbell

  4. Hey Fest. Just over 3 months to the Chicago/Rosemont Fest and can’t wait. Will be awesome to see the new deluxe packages for the McCartney and McCartney II packages. Both are in need of an upgrade and remastering. Kudos Paul on finally giving your solo work the deluxe treatment it deserves!

  5. I was 16 when this was released. The world was watching the dramatic story of Apollo 13. I’ll never forget when I finally realized there would be no more new Beatle records. A very sad day.

  6. I still have mine after all these years. I have moved from place to place, but have always kept my albums close by. So happy vinyl is back!

  7. I just LOVE all of everyone’s comments, memories, feelings about how a Beatle song/ Music makes you feel/ VERY HAPPY!!!
I still have lots of photos, beatle cards, LPS & 45’s old 16 magazines, etc. Beatles Flip Your Wig game by Milton Bradley. I now have the Cassettes & CD’s as well. Hello/Goodbye!!!
