Most Significant Day in Beatles History – 2/9/64

Today marks the 47th Anniversary of the most significant date in Beatles History – February 9, 1964 – The Day The Beatles Conquered America! It was such a clear line in the sand moment! One day The Beatles were the new hot up and coming band with the top two songs. The next day it was the only thing anyone at school was talking about. The girls all had crushes on their favorite Beatle, and the guys we so jealous they immediately started to grow their hair longer and learned to play guitar. (I know. I was one of them!) Seeing and hearing them Live on The Ed Sullivan Show that Sunday Night convinced us right then and there, that they were ‘it’. What an explosion! And it kept getting better and better! When you hear the thousands of interviews with other rock stars who followed, their answer on how they got started is universal –  “I saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan and I just had to do that too!” If you have the DVD, put it on tonight at 8PM and imagine it is 1964! I guarantee you will get chills! In 1974, our first FEST celebrated the 10th anniversary of this special occasion. Now, 37 years later (& 47 years since the Ed Sullivan Show), Beatles fans of all ages and from all over the country still Come Together to celebrate our common love for THE BEATLES at THE FEST FOR BEATLES FANS. Hope you can join us at the next FEST, the weekend of March 25-27 at the NJ Crowne Plaza Meadowlands.

  2. As a huge Beatles fan, I own the Beatles on Ed Sullivan on dvd it was one monumentuous day in history I remember well. On that
day, my grandmother called on my mom and my uncles into the living room at her house to watch the Beatles on the ed sullivan show then the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan from the deauville hotel in Miami. Happy 47th anniversary, Beatles on Ed Sullivan.

  3. I still remember the build-up to the show and the actual show itself like yesterday. Even though I was only seven years old at the time, I knew something significant was happening and from my parents responses, I knew the world was changing. Of course, they were right, but I doubt if they understood the degree of change that would occur because of what started on Ed Sullivan that night.

  4. I was looking thru my billboard 100 charts of the 1960’s..love to go to the page where the BEATLES held the top 5 positions on the chart. often remind people & friends and some whom have never known that feat which was never repeated.
One of the great highlights in my lifetime was watching the beatles perform for the first time on ED Sullivan..I was just playing guitar for about a year..learning and struggling along and then the BEATLES became our hero’s and were largely resonsible for me and my band to forge on and become really good guitar players, along with vocalizing. It will stay with me forever, as i play for friends and family and entertain people who enjoy what i do.. and i owe it tremendously to those 4 super guys!!
