
{"id":8954,"date":"2023-01-23T15:16:46","date_gmt":"2023-01-23T20:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefest.com\/?p=8954"},"modified":"2023-01-23T15:16:57","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T20:16:57","slug":"revolver-deep-dive-talent-is-the-best-weapon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefest.com\/revolver-deep-dive-talent-is-the-best-weapon\/","title":{"rendered":"Revolver Deep Dive: Talent is the best weapon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If Frank Sinatra is correct and \u201csuccess is the best revenge,\u201d then surely \u201ctalent is the best weapon.\u201d And for The Beatles, their ever-emerging and morphing talent was exhibited most effectively in their 1966 album, <em>Revolver<\/em>. <em>Revolver <\/em>shattered almost <em>everything<\/em> that fans and critics had come to think of as \u201cclassic Beatles.\u201d It launched us all into an era of new sounds, new techniques, new topics and ideas. Even the LP\u2019s clever title conjured up myriad novel images:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>images of rotating turntables,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>circular doors opening to new avenues,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>opinions pivoting as the world revolved from comfortable \u201cshe loves you\u201d yesterdays to thought-provoking \u201ctomorrow never knows\u201d futures.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Opening up and provoking thought: That is <em>exactly<\/em> what <strong>The Fest for Beatles Fans<\/strong> blog will be doing over the next 16 months as we begin to explore the genius and artistry of <em>Revolver,<\/em> track-by-track. We will study each song in depth and ask our own Fest authors and experts to share their insights into the 14 songs of 1966 that introduced us all to \u201cthe studio Beatles.\u201d We will examine these innovative tunes and lyrics with the help of Bruce Spizer, Jay Bergen, Christine Feldman-Barrett, Dr. Kit O\u2019Toole, Laura Cortner and Dr. Bob Hieronimus, Erin Torkelson Weber, Bob Wilson and Don Jeffries, Debbie Greenberg, Susan Shumsky, Ivor Davis, Melissa Davis, Bill King, and me, Jude Southerland Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each month, I will research and present what the Beatles music experts have to say about \u201cwho played what and how and when and where\u201d on that month\u2019s selected track \u2013 presenting that information in our \u201cWhat\u2019s Standard\u201d section of the Fest Blog. Then, the innovations of each song will be covered in the \u201cWhat\u2019s Changed\u201d section. Finally, I\u2019ll interview a guest Beatles author\/expert, asking that individual to answer 4 in-depth questions about \u201cthe song of the month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll begin this study in February with a look at \u201cTaxman.\u201d Guest Expert <strong>Bruce Spizer<\/strong>, who recently released the already best-selling book <em>The Beatles Rubber Soul to Revolver<\/em>, will kick things off. Already, Bruce and I are both hard at work, preparing the blog for you. We\u2019re hoping that the information we uncover will provide a \u201cFresh New Look\u201d at a song that may have been penned by George Harrison (with some help from John Lennon) but took all four Beatles to perfect. We hope we can serve up some food for thought about the exciting opening track on this great LP.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because <em>that,<\/em> after all, \u00a0is the theme of <em>Revolver.<\/em> It was, in essence, the modern \u201cshot heard round the world,\u201d signaling freedom from past convention in favor of a \u201cband-new,\u201d independent \u00a0beginning. It was the decisive break between the stage band we had come to love so dearly and the studio band that would amaze us (no <em>maybe<\/em>) over and over again \u2013 with songs that would be almost impossible to be performed on a stage. <em>Revolver<\/em> encouraged us to stop, pay attention, and listen\u2026very carefully. And over the next 16 months, <em>that<\/em> is what we will do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fest for Beatles Fans<\/strong> cordially invites <em>you<\/em> to join us in this trek through the best music of 1966, brought to you via the genius of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and the magnificent sound artists led by Sir George Martin at EMI studios.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Soon, we shall begin.
